Sorayya will be a Visiting Research Fellow at the Aceh Institute in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, during May 2007. She will be working on a project involving trauma, memory, and loss.

Sorayya will be a participant on a panel, "The Imagination of Displacement," on March 3, 2007 at the AWP Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Four women novelists and poets of Pakistani origin currently living in the US explore issues of displacement and identity. Each writer's work reflects her personal history which includes being multiracial and/or belonging to an immigrant community. She will read from new work. Other participants are novelist and activist Sehba Sarwar, poet and artist Ilona Yusuf, and novelist Maniza Naqvi.

Recent

Sorayya was the guest of Literaturwerkstatt Berlin, September 26-29, 2006, Berlin, Germany. The event was titled, "And Then We Were Strangers: Literature from India and Pakistan," („und plötzlich waren wir Fremde – Literatur aus Indien und Pakistan.") Her novel, NOOR, and the research she undertook for it, was featured in a larger discussion on oral history and the partitioning of the subcontinent.

Other participants were poet NIDA FAZLI, writer, publisher and activist
URVASHI BUTALIA, writer and journalist M. J. AKBAR, writer KAMLESHWAR,
and writer INTIZAR HUSAIN.
